BUGS’ n BEADS™ - STI/STI-fast, from Genpoint-NorDiag are automated methods for the isolation of DNA and RNA from bacteria causing sexual transmitted infections (STI).
 

Intended use
BUGS' n BEADS™ STI is a generic system that uses the BUGS' n BEADS™ technology for qualitative preparation of nucleic acids (NA) from bacteria causing sexual transmitted infections (STI) using urine or material collected with a swab as samples. The kits have successfully been used for the isolation of Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma genitalium and Urea plasma urealyticum. The following detection systems have been used to analyse the nucleic acids: PCR* and SDA**.

Every new application or combination with other detection systems should be validated by the user for the specific use.
 

Principle behind BUGS'n BEADS™ procedure

  • Immobilise bacteria
  • Remove the sample material
  • Lyse the cells to release the NA
  • Precipitate the NA back onto the surface and wash away cell debris
  • Leave behind/elute clean NA for further analysis

Using the above simple clean-up approach, inhibition problems often encountered with other sample preparation systems are avoided.

  • Elute NA directly for further analysis
